Avalon - A legend in Chaos

Welcome to Avalon

Avalon is a fantastical world precariously balanced on the back of a colossal, cosmic creature (likely a giant snail, but scholars refuse to agree). In this chaotic realm inspired by Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, absurdity reigns, and reality bends to whimsy. This is a drop-in game where each session is mostly self-contained, letting players hop in and out of the hilarity with ease. Whether you’re navigating bureaucratic magic, wrestling with insufferable gods, or surviving the world’s random nonsense, Avalon promises laughs, surprises, and occasional heroics.

The Absolutely True Adventures of Margwin the Magnificent

“It was on the seventh moon of Zarkta that I cast my greatest spell,” Margwin declared, holding court over his eager apprentice. “A whirlwind of cosmic energies swirled around me as—”

“But wasn’t that the time you accidentally summoned the God of Lost Socks instead?” interrupted the apprentice, nose buried in a spellbook.

“Excuse me, who is telling this tale?” snapped Margwin, adjusting his oversized hat. “If I may continue without interruptions: the whirlwind of cosmic energies swirled, my robes billowed, and the villagers gazed on in awe as—”

“—you tripped on your staff and landed in a puddle?”

Margwin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “One day, you’ll learn, apprentice. Greatness is rarely recognized in its time.”

“And puddles are slippery,” the apprentice muttered.

A World in the Cosmos

  • Avalon is a cosmic oddity. Perched atop a giant, space-bound snail, the world hurtles through the stars without apparent purpose or direction.
  • The gods are hilariously petty. From the God of Lost Socks to the Goddess of Procrastination, their interventions are more chaotic than divine.
  • Magic demands paperwork. Spells require permits, bribes, and endless forms, courtesy of the Guild of Bureaucratic Sorcery.
  • Reality isn’t consistent. Sideways rain, self-heating tea lakes, and debating scholars who argue the laws of physics into submission are just part of daily life.
  • Weird is the norm. Talking animals, bottled luck merchants, and rhyming prophecies gone wrong are just a few of Avalon's quirks.

Wizzable Whimsy

The heart of this adventure lies in its comedic fantasy tone, where the world doesn’t follow the rules you know. In Avalon, slapstick humor, absurd situations, and irreverent satire create a playground for hilarity and creativity. Expect a chaotic blend of slapstick, witty banter, and heartwarming moments as your characters try—and often fail—to make sense of a world that refuses to take itself seriously.

Creating Your Characters

Players can create a variety of characters to embrace Avalon’s ridiculousness. Consider a wizard overwhelmed by magical bureaucracy, a bard cursed to only rhyme badly, or a knight whose “grail” is actually a soup bowl. Feel free to craft a new character for each session or develop one over multiple adventures. Flexibility is encouraged—your hero can be as serious or silly as you like.

Tips for Playing in Avalon

  • Embrace the absurd: Lean into the humor and let your character make mistakes—they’re often funnier!
  • Think outside the box: Creative solutions, no matter how ridiculous, are often rewarded.
  • Play off others: Collaborate with fellow players for comedic setups and improvised hilarity.
  • Don’t take things too seriously: Avalon thrives on chaos; enjoy the ride.

What Awaits Your Characters

From bureaucratic disasters to dealing with gods who care more about their hobbies than their duties, Avalon is a world teeming with challenges. Your characters might navigate sideways rainstorms, outwit talking door knockers, or debate the philosophy of existence with an existentially confused dragon. Whether you save the day or simply survive the chaos, your actions will leave a mark (probably a sticky one) on the world of Avalon.
