Dear Nostalga

Welcome to my little space on the web; unfiltered, uncurated, and untouched by algorithms.

Who am I

I'm a human, pretty sure, living in the UK. After years of digital burnout, I decided to unplug from the constant buzz and infinite scrolling. These days, I’m trying to live slower and with more intention. I use a typewriter instead of a laptop, shoot on film instead of digital, and listen to cassette tapes instead of streaming. No smartphone, no feed, no like button—just real things made with care.

But this isn’t about rejecting tech completely. It’s about rediscovering things that feel grounded. The stuff that takes time. The stuff worth keeping.

I read doctrine, psychology, folklore, and strategy. I study maps, body language, and behavior. I spend a lot of time thinking about how things work—whether it’s a dungeon encounter or global geopolitics. I like structure. I like improvising inside it. Some might call it overthinking. I call it weaponized focus with a flavor of autism. It's a skill. Or a curse. Probably both.

What I do?

I'm a maker, a creator, someone who dives into hobbies and passions as they come and go. Here's what I'm into lately:

  • Writing short stories and building strange, vivid worlds. Aiming for one tale a month.
  • Collecting cassette tapes to own the music I love. It's tactile, it's nostalgic, and it's mine.
  • Hosting and playing tabletop RPGs. Expect some thoughts and tales from the table here.
  • Shooting film photography. It's expensive...
  • Still gaming—mostly Paradox titles.

What is this place?

A blog? A portfolio? Maybe both. Maybe neither. It’s a platform for me. A quiet corner of the internet where I can explore, share, and celebrate the things I love without worrying about reach or trends. Just creative freedom, pure and simple.

Why I Collect

I collect deliberately. My music and books aren’t trophies—they’re tools. When I pick up a tape, I’m looking for a mood, a memory, or a moment. When I grab a book, I’m often trying to solve something. Understand something. Build something.

I read doctrine, psychology, folklore, and strategy. I study maps, body language, and behavior. I spend a lot of time thinking about how things work—whether it’s a dungeon encounter or global geopolitics. I like structure. I like improvising inside it.

My RPG shelf is stacked with systems that let me tinker and worldbuild. My culinary section is full of fundamentals and deep technique. My digital library? Mostly weird psychology, influence theory, and intelligence methods. There’s a theme. I want to know how people think and why they move the way they do.

Music? It’s not just background. My collection spans theatrical rock, horror scores, punk, soul, and tape compilations. There’s chaos and clarity in it. Sometimes I need to work fast. Sometimes I need to fall apart.

So yeah, I don’t do this casually. I collect because I care. Because these things shape me. And because they deserve to be held, flipped through, rewound, reread, and remembered.

What I'm Into

These are the things I keep coming back to. Projects, formats, obsessions. All slow, all tactile, all built around curiosity and connection.

📚 Books & Writing

I read a lot. I collect even more. From dense cookbooks and military field manuals to surreal fiction and tabletop modules, my shelves are a blend of curiosity and chaos. I also write short stories when I can—usually strange little worlds that feel just slightly off. You can find those on the Stories page.

📼 Music & Cassettes

I collect cassette tapes. Not ironically—lovingly. There's something about the hiss, the physicality, the permanence. The collection’s a mix of theatrical rock, retro soundtracks, weird compilations, and the occasional blues tape found in a charity shop bin. If you're into trading, swapping, or selling, you’ll find the full archive on the Music page.

🎲 TTRPG & Worldbuilding

I run and play old-school style tabletop games—low magic, lethal, player-driven. The current campaign is a Westmarches-style sandbox using Old-School Essentials (OSE), with players exploring a shared world across loosely connected sessions. We’re just starting an expedition into a forgotten dwarven hold called Ironbarrow. I genuinely don’t know what’s down there, and that’s the best part. You can follow the campaign on the Westmarches page.

📷 Photography

I like walking, noticing things, and shooting them on film. Mostly 35mm, sometimes digital. It’s not about being flashy—just trying to show the world the way I understand it. Textures, shadows, weird corners. Some of it ends up on the Photos page if I get around to scanning it.

My Socials

This Week’s Thought

Still got more reading to do, TTRPG game all preped ready to go, a roll of film waiting to be developed, and a new tape that’s been stuck in the deck for days. Productivity? Hard to say. But I’m learning to treat “unfinished” as part of the rhythm. The tape hums. The dice are ready. That’s enough.
